Bitterness of the Soul

Bitterness makes the soul ugly. It kills joy and contradicts faith. It is sour and sarcastic, unable to see the good in anything. It is jealous of those who are happy, and seeks to make others fall. What can be done for a heart of bitterness? If it is your own heart, you can repent and seek forgiveness of the Lord. You can pray He will cleanse you from this sin, and help you make amends to those whom you have hurt. If it is someone else whom you know to be bitter, you can pray for them, but do not seek their company, so that you do not become like them. Bitterness is like a drug; those who indulge in bitterness enjoy the feeling of darkness. Unless the Lord leads them out of the darkness of their souls, they will carry that bitterness with them until they die. Someday we will all answer to the Lord, and we will give an account for what we have and have not done. Let us not be found guilty of spreading bitterness and darkness to others, but let us pray that the Lord will relieve our hearts of such burdens so that we may become a light for those who live in darkness. Think about it…
